A cartoon-alien shoot-em-up wrapper is familiar enough, and it would be easy to file Alien Invaders as just another cascading effort from Pragmatic Play on the little-green-men theme. But strip the slot down to its bolts and the facade is misleading: the action happens not across the whole grid, but in one narrow strip — the marked bottom row, which decides whether the spin even fires.

The short version: base RTP 96.50%, high volatility, a 5-reel grid of variable height (3–5 symbols) running an active-bottom-row mechanic instead of classic lines, and a ceiling of 5,000x the bet. The hook is a progressive spin multiplier that climbs as symbols explode.

Why is this bottom row even here?

The grid is non-standard: five reels, but each one floats in height — three to five symbols per spin. This is not Megaways or a ways engine; Pragmatic built its own scheme, and the lines (formally 20 in the vs20 engine) are almost decoration here. The actual payout is decided by one marked row at the bottom.

The logic goes like this: every spin marks the bottom row. For the spin to fire, you need 3+ matching symbols in that row. If you collect them, the reels carrying that symbol become active, and then ALL its instances on the active reels explode — not just the three sitting at the bottom. So the bottom row works as a detonator, while the damage is counted across the whole column. Hence the cascades: triggered symbols vanish (tumble), new ones drop in from above, and so on until wins stop.

Where does the multiplier ramp come from?

This is the second half of the mechanic, and the first half is pointless without it. The spin multiplier starts at x1 and adds +1x for every 10 symbols exploded within a single spin. So a long cascade off the active bottom row is not just a scatter of small wins — it is fuel that ramps the coefficient applied to the next hits of that same spin.

The bonus is triggered by 3+ scatters (the scatter, by the way, also explodes and wipes out its neighbours): you get 7 free spins plus 3 more for every extra scatter. How much does it pay and where is the catch?

But operators are handed a range of builds, and the spread is meaningful: 96.50% / 95.48% / 94.51%, with 92.01% surfacing in one review. Between the top and the bottom mass-market version sits almost two percentage points (96.50 vs 94.51 = 1.99 pp), and the gap down to 92.01% is already nearly four and a half points. Over distance this is not cosmetic: every percentage point of RTP is money the engine does not return on average.

Volatility is high, and the 5,000x ceiling confirms it. But 5,000x is a theoretical maximum: it assumes a perfect stack of a long cascade, a ramped spin multiplier and a x100 wild in the bonus. The odds of assembling all that in one run are tiny, and treating the ceiling as a benchmark is a mistake.
