BlackJack Side Bets slot review
At the races, you don't only bet on the winner: you can also wager on who breaks first out of the gate, and that bet is settled in the opening seconds. GameArt's Blackjack Side Bets works the same way. The big idea: two games in one deal, a quick one and the main one.
House rules: 6 decks of 52 cards, up to three bet places and two side bets, Perfect Pairs and 21+3. The dealer draws to 17 or higher, a push returns your stake, and insurance costs 50% of the bet and pays 2 to 1.
How does the deal play out?
Each bet place gets a card, then the dealer gets one. Next, every active bet place gets a second card, and the dealer gets a face-down second card.
Then it's your move: hit, stand, double your bet, or split a pair of same-value cards into two hands. After that, the dealer draws until reaching 17 or more, including a "soft 17" with an ace counted as 11. If the dealer busts, all remaining hands win. If not, a hand wins if it beats the dealer's, and a tie returns your bet.
How do the side bets work?
Side bets can only be added to a place that already has a main bet.
🃏 Bets at the gate
- On any place, you can bet Perfect Pairs, 21+3 or both.
- They're checked once all cards are dealt: Perfect Pairs first, then 21+3, starting from the right-hand place.
- A pop-up appears for every winning side bet.
- The main hand starts once all side bets are checked and paid.
What do we know about returns?
The only figures come from the rules: the dealer stands on 17, a push returns your stake, and insurance costs half your bet and pays 2 to 1. Insurance is offered when the dealer shows an ace. If the dealer has blackjack, the round ends and you break even: insurance only covers the loss on your main bet.
Dealer busts
- Up to three bet places per deal.
- Two side bets, Perfect Pairs and 21+3, settled right after the deal.
- The full set of decisions: hit, stand, double, split and insurance.
You bust
- You can't place a side bet without a main bet on the same place.
- Payouts for Perfect Pairs and 21+3 aren't disclosed.
- No bonus rounds or multipliers; the cards decide everything.
Who should take a seat at this table?
| Player profile | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fans of classic blackjack | 🟢 Yes | 6 decks, dealer to 17, hit, stand, double, split and insurance. |
| Side bet enthusiasts | 🟢 Likely yes | Perfect Pairs and 21+3 on every place with a bet. |
| Fans of classic slots with bonus rounds | 🟠 Likely no | No reels, free spins or bonuses here. |
| Players who take insurance out of habit | 🟡 Caution | It costs 50% of your bet and, against a dealer blackjack, only gets you a draw. |
⚡ Should you play Blackjack Side Bets?
The main game is the classic: beat the dealer without going over 21, with doubles, splits and insurance. The side bets are a quick wager on the first cards, settled before you make your first decision. If you just want blackjack, the main bet is enough; if you like extra action, Perfect Pairs and 21+3 are there. Breaking first from the gate doesn't mean finishing first.
