Lucky Durian slot review
Across Southeast Asia, the durian is hailed as the king of fruit: spikes and a pungent smell on the outside, sweet flesh within. In Habanero's Lucky Durian, His Majesty and his juicy entourage have moved into the psychedelic Duri-verse, and the moment you crack him open, expanding wilds and re-spins hit the reels. The big idea: a wild that expands, locks in place and books its own encore.
Sliced into segments: a 5x3 grid, 15 lines that pay both ways, very high volatility, RTP from ~86% to 98% and a cap of x4,375. At the core sits the expanded wild: it locks in place and awards 3 re-spins.
Which way do the 15 lines read?
Under the husk: five reels, three rows and 15 lines. One detail matters — lines pay both ways, so a combination counts left to right as well as right to left.
The star symbol is the wild: once it lands, it expands and locks. The description frames this as the storyline — crack open the Lucky Durian and you set off expanding wilds and re-spins.
How long can a re-spin chain run?
The rules don't describe separate free spins: here, re-spins do the bonus's job.
💡 How the chain unfolds
- the wild expands and locks;
- every expanded wild awards 3 re-spins;
- re-spins can be retriggered with no limit.
Whether new re-spins stack on top of the ones left and how long wilds stay locked, the source doesn't specify. What it does state plainly: there's no cap on retriggers.
What does the VERY HIGH label smell like?
A durian warns you from across the room with its smell; this game does it with a VERY HIGH volatility rating. On the numbers, the big wins come in bursts, with long pauses in between.
The top end is x4,375. Re-spins can be retriggered any number of times, but a win won't climb past 4,375 times the bet.
Beyond that, it all comes down to the RTP version — and that's the casino's call.
⚠️ The casino decides how ripe your fruit is
Lucky Durian comes at different stages of ripeness: ~86%, 92%, 94%, 97% or 98% RTP. The greenest trails the ripest by ≈12 percentage points of theoretical return, and from the outside you can't tell them apart. Cut it open first: the RTP line is in the game info at your casino.
The sweet flesh
- An expanded wild locks in place and awards 3 re-spins straight away.
- Re-spins can be retriggered any number of times.
- Lines pay both ways: all 15 work left to right and right to left.
- The cap is x4,375, and the top RTP version is 98%.
The spiky husk
- VERY HIGH volatility, with the whole game riding on one mechanic — expanded wilds with re-spins.
- The rules describe no free spins: the bonus here is the re-spin chain and nothing else.
- Unlimited retriggers don't lift the ceiling: wins stop at x4,375.
- The lowest RTP version is ~86%, ≈12 points below the top, and the casino makes the pick.
Who will acquire a taste for this fruit?
| Player profile | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fans of sticky wilds and re-spins | 🟢 Yes | An expanded wild locks, awards 3 re-spins, and retriggers are unlimited. |
| Players who like lines that pay from either edge | 🟢 Likely yes | All 15 lines pay both ways: left to right and right to left. |
| Anyone after a classic free spins bonus | 🟠 Likely no | The rules only describe re-spins from expanded wilds — there's no separate free spins round in them. |
| Players who read unlimited re-spins as unlimited winnings | 🟡 Caution | Retriggers have no limit, but the cap is x4,375, volatility is VERY HIGH and the RTP could be ~86%. |
⚡ Lucky Durian: regular spin or the chain?
Lucky Durian runs in two modes. A regular spin means 15 lines paying both ways and a wait for the wild. The chain kicks in when a wild expands: it locks, awards 3 re-spins, and those can be retriggered with no limit. By the rules, everything the game has to offer sits in the second mode — but the road there runs through VERY HIGH volatility, and the payoff stops at x4,375, so check the RTP version before you start. The king of fruit never opens at the first cut: the sweetness here hides behind spikes labelled VERY HIGH.
